In an emergency

Try to stay calm – pets pick up on stress, and you’ll be more help to them.

Call us straight away if your pet:

  • is struggling to breathe
  • has collapsed, is very weak, or suddenly can’t walk or put weight on a leg
  • is having a seizure (fitting)
  • is badly injured or bleeding heavily, has been hit by a car, or has been bitten or stung (especially a snake bite, or a sting near the face or throat)
  • may have eaten something poisonous or swallowed something they shouldn’t
  • has a swollen tummy or is retching but nothing comes up, especially large dogs
  • is a male cat straining to wee or passing little or nothing
  • is a rabbit or guinea pig who has stopped eating or drinking, or has flystrike
  • has an injured, painful or bulging eye, or can’t open it
  • has been vomiting or diarrhoea for more than 24 hours, or seems very flat

Not sure? Call us if you have any concerns, we’d rather hear from you.

24/7 care – who will see you

Mon–Fri, 8am–7pm and Sat, 9am–5pm: our day team.

Out of hours (all other times): our dedicated night team, with a vet on site all night.

As Basingstoke’s only 24/7 staffed veterinary practice, there is always a vet here for your pet, day or night. Our dedicated night team starts fresh each evening and works hand in hand with our day team, ensuring seamless care for your pet around the clock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, however, a higher consultation fee will apply for non-registered clients – see table above.

If registered at another practice, they will provide guidance on their specific out-of-hours care. We will never turn away an emergency and will accept non-registered pets if their owner chooses to come to us.

The same applies to in-patient care, we will be happy to accept cases if pet owners prefer for their pet to remain under our care until discharge.

We would consider your pet registered with The Hampshire Vet if we have seen them in the last 12 months or have received previous veterinary history.

Generally, yes, however, please check your individual policy wording as limits on the claimable amount may exist with your policy.

Only very occasionally due to staff sickness, or on Christmas Day and Boxing Day as we feel it is important our team spend this time with their families. The rest of the year, there is no need to travel to Winchester, Farnham or Reading. We are here in Basingstoke 24/7.

We may be able to offer a home visit if you are unable to bring your pet to us, however, if our team are dealing with emergency cases in-practice, or are in surgery or consulting, this will delay our departure.

The best place to treat your pet will always be at our veterinary surgery where we have state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment facilities and a vast range of medication.

Unfortunately not, consultation entitlements within the Hampshire Wellness Club membership are only usable during weekday opening hours (Monday-Friday 8am-7pm and Saturday 9am-5pm).
